FPL Food filed to cut 179 jobs at its Augusta beef-processing plant as the company scales back production for a major renovation.

The reductions are scheduled for October 31. FPL expects the work to continue through 2027 and said affected employees may reapply as production returns, but the state filing classifies the action as a permanent reduction in force. The 450-person worksite includes production labor, forklift operators, CDL drivers, quality staff, sales and administrative roles.
