Packaging Corporation of America to close Middletown, Ohio, plant, affecting about 91 workers
The company is moving the work to larger operations, including a new plant it recently opened in Ohio. Most employees will be released December 1, 2026.
Packaging Corporation of America is permanently closing its converting plant in Middletown, Ohio, a decision expected to affect all of the roughly 91 employees there, according to a letter the company filed with state and local officials under the federal WARN Act. (Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services)
The company said the work will be consolidated into larger and more efficient operations, including a new plant it recently opened in Ohio. It also said it will help employees who want to transfer to other PCA locations with open positions.
Most employees will be released on December 1, 2026, and a few may be asked to stay longer; the company expects the plant at 1824 Baltimore Street to be vacant by the end of that month. PCA plans to keep the workforce through the 60-day notice period and said anyone released before it ends will be paid for the full 60 days.
The plant’s hourly production and maintenance workers are represented by the United Steelworkers’ Local 1676, which the company said it has notified. The letter is dated October 1, 2026.
